Health Ministries

At New Direction Christian Center, we are committed to improving the physical and mental health of our congregation and our community. One way we do this is through our Eating for Life program. This program provides information about the importance of healthy eating habits and regular physical activity.

Lack of information and limited access to resources increases the risk of developing and dying from chronic illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many types of cancer. The Eating for Life program strives to educate the communities we serve about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise in reducing these risks.

We also realize the importance of building and sustaining partnerships between community leaders, educational institutions and other similarly focused organizations in addressing health concerns that affect our congregation and our community. As a result, we regularly attend community meetings and are an active and contributing member of the Diversity Coalition and work with agencies that include the American Cancer Society, UC Davis Center for Health Disparities, Sacramento NAACP, American Diabetes Association, and the Health Education Council.

The Eating for Life program also partners with other churches to promote Body & Soul, a faith-based health and wellness program, and also visits farmers' markets, community functions and other events to distribute nutrition and physical information.
